Valley ankeny football game

The Hawk defense hounded Valley quarterback Mason Morrow all night. Valley totaled just yards while Ankeny racked up six tackles for loss and three sacks. The Tigers rushed for just 50 yards, a stark contrast after Dion Hutch rushed for yards and five touchdowns against Pleasant Valley last week.

We missed like 19 tackles. I watched that film like three or four times. We just made those adjustments. Morrow went for for just yards, one touchdown and another interception, and frequently made throws either with defenders chasing him or in his face. Eli Raridon, the Notre Dame tight end recruit, hauled in eight catches for 60 yards and one touchdown, the only one Valley scored all night, at the end of the second half.

We had a few injured offensive linemen, so we had guys step in there and they did a good job, but Ankeny is a really physical team. Valley's defense put forth a valiant effort.

Ankeny had just total yards at halftime. Ryan Kuennen and Jake Auen both recorded third-down sacks that both forced punts. Drew Henderson recorded a big tackle-for-loss to force another. Before Auen's sack, Chase Hutchinson recorded a spectacular pass break-up on a deep pass downfield. But unlike the last time these two teams met — in Week 6, which resulted in a thrilling Valley victory — Ankeny emphasized running the ball. Kadolph led the way with rushing yards on 25 carries.

Quarterback JJ Kohl added another chunk on a yard run in the third quarter that set up Kadolph's 5-yard touchdown. In all, Ankeny put up total yards on 42 plays, and of them came via the rush. He still completed six of them for yards and two touchdowns. They walloped a very dangerous Valley team, and are now just one win away from winning a second-straight state championship in Iowa's largest football class.
