Is this a common occurrence, or did I just luck out? Is it possible that his omni-tool gloves are some sort of Haptic interface? He seems to be using them to control the holographic screen, whilst most others just use their hands. The codex entry on the haptic interface mentions that some people get haptic implants, so these could possibly be a variant of them.
Note: I put the exact same thing on Maleon's talk page, but figured more people would reply here. Why is it that the books always mention people "taking out" an omni tool from their pockets? I was under the impression that they are unobtrusive and can be worn at all times without appearing unless needed. It means the device is taken out, and then the holographic display It's like attaching a watch and then all of a sudden your arm turns orange.
You guys get my point I don't think that it's a special omni tool, as the way it's shown in the game would make it essentially useless whenever away from the computer he was using, and because all you saw was an orb-ish part in his palm, which is part of the standard omni-tool.
It's probably just only showing that to make it easier to interact with the computer, rather that obstruct his vision with the more interactive part of the omni-tool.
Could we remove that part, or at least add this? Don't say speculation, as it was speculation that caused it to be listed as a separate type of omni-tool in the first place. ME1: How does the stats system work for Omni-Tools? Is the Shield Bonus just a base increase to max shields, or is there a more complicated system?
Is the tech cooldown bonus measured in seconds, or is there some other way to measure it? Why does it not explain how the stats system work in the main Omni-Tool page? I have similar questions about the stats for Bio-Amps, Armor, and Weapons. Does anyone know these answers, or where I can start looking for them? I'm curious. Was the Shadow Brokers hand-held shield a specalised omni-tool ability?
I have been playing this game a while now, on my second run-through with this character, and I seem to always run into the problem of not being able to find the higher level omni-tools; whether by random loot or in the shops. Omni-tools are handheld devices that combine a computer microframe, sensor analysis pack, and minifacturing fabricator.
Versatile and reliable, an omni-tool can be used to analyze and adjust the functionality of most standard equipment, including weapons and armor , from a distance. The fabrication module can rapidly assemble small three-dimensional objects from common, reusable industrial plastics, ceramics, and light alloys.
This allows for field repairs and modifications to most standard items, as well as the reuse of salvaged equipment. Although melee-combat applications for the omni-tool are almost as old as the device itself, the feature was largely unused prior to the Reaper invasion.
The need to take on multiple husks in close quarters forced the Alliance to develop ways to enhance the tool's offensive capability. The most common melee design is the "omni-blade," a disposable silicon-carbide weapon flash-forged by the tool's mini-fabricator. The transparent, nearly diamond-hard blade is created and suspended in a mass effect field safely away from the user's skin.
Warning lights illuminate the field so the searing-hot blade only burns what it is intended to: the opponent. More technically adept soldiers frequently modify their omni-tools to maximize stopping power through electrical, kinetic, or thermal energy.
Some troops integrate the weapon with their kinetic barriers, transforming the omni-tool into a wrist-mounted bludgeon; others fabricate flammable gases, held in place by a mass effect field and ignited upon impact. All prove deadly surprises for opponents who expect a disarmed Alliance warrior. These omni-tool models are equippable in Mass Effect. They can be purchased from merchants , obtained during battle, or recovered by hacking storage containers. From what we've seen the range of the printer can be short omni blade or longer door havking, Ryder's helmet repair and can even be shot away tech powers like overload, incinerate, cryo beam aso are launched through the omni-tool.
According to the ME codex, as I recall, they were "standard issue for soldiers and 'first-in' colonists" and utilized available materials to break down and then fabricate required items repairs, upgrades, grenades, and what-not.
I suspected they were initially included in armor or a band worn like a wristwatch - excuse me, those are all fit-bits now, right? I figured Cerberus tech advances translated into Shepard's ME2 upgrades embedding the omni-chip in her wrist to eliminate the need for an external device.
After the suicide mission, the Alliance would have been all over that cyborg's upgrades and applied whatever they could embedded omni-chips to the rest of the Fleet. Apparently mass effect fields are useful to everything from flinging spacecraft across the galaxy to toothbrushes.
Why not wrist-mounted magic wands? I see it sort of like a glove or smart watch type of gear, where it can also interface with any implants or suit the user has. In the first Mass Effect you can also change your bio-amps, which is a piece of cybernetic technology. You don't undergo surgery or anything every time you do it though, you just change the part that's plugged into your implant. It's possible omni-tools use similar technology, or perhaps the upgrades aren't hardware changes but OS changes you make by switching out an easily removable chip.
However I do believe that Shepard's omni-tool was likely built into armour, at least for the first game, which was why you could easily switch it around.
