I'll let you know what happens. Part of the reason I posted was in case any others who read these forums were having the same issue as me and were experiencing the same level of confusion. Appreciate the guidance. I'm going to follow Joe's advice and wait for a day or two and then restore the other files.
Some of those posts were so similar to others I had read -- particularly in reference to there somehow being a link to these files and Roxio files I originally had Roxio installed on this machine. I also chuckled at the poster who made reference to the insane restrictions that the AVG mods place on their forum, referring to them as "big-time jerks. Thanks for the help. I knew I could count on members of this board to set me straight.
The final straw was when I was slapped down by one of them merely for confirming another poster's suspicion of a FP- I believe the exact words were "Do as you are told, and don't post in this thread again". Even though I had provided ample proof of the FP, in a very non-confrontational manner. The AVG forum is not a "user-to-user" forum, it is a "mod-to-user" forum, and heaven help anyone not following their rigid rules!
It is a forum run by AVG unlike eg: the Nod32 forum run by Wilders, a completely independent website. Off-hand, I can't think of any other AV or anti-malware forum that does not encourage the reporting of FPs, and do their best to confirm or deny the suspect detection, and to correct it ASAP. I've bookmarked it and will use it the next time I need to prior to my ditching AVG. Matter of fact, I had posted on the AVG forum once before. As I am sure you know, they have been having quite a few issues with their Update Manager, particularly about a week ago with a missing.
There was a string of posts about it, and they were all exactly alike. So, I replied to the post similar to what we do here on the Dell Forums and stated that I was having the identical problem.
Lo and behold, within one hour, my post along with every other post other than the original post had been deleted because we were deemed "not helping the original poster and not offering a valid solution. A string of separate posts ensued slamming the mods, all of which were subsequently deleted. Again, thanks for your help. Hopefully if anyone else using AVG encounters this FP issue, they'll stumble upon this thread and the excellent advice I have received. Browse Community. Turn on suggestions.
