That's insane. How did they get away with that? If it is the same major, minor, build, how can you get away with calling it a different product? How can they make you pay to get an upgrade when it is the same thing? And you got this from Microsoft's source!?

When you go between different variations like Enterprise or Standard or Datacenter, there is no difference of version. All editions has same version of Windows Server family.
